Deputy President William Ruto has been dealt another blow after Elgeyo Marakwet Governor Alex Tolgos distanced himself from the 'Tanga Tanga' faction of the Jubilee Party.
The second term Jubilee governor on Monday denied being associated with the 'Tanga Tanga' group which has declared support for the DP's 2022 presidential bid.
“I am neither in 'Tanga Tanga' nor 'Kieleweke' teams but I do not like the way members of the 'Tanga Tanga' team are doing their things. It should be known that I will never be part of that team,” Mr Tolgos said as quoted by the Daily Nation.
The governor’s presence at retired President Daniel Moi’s Kabarak home on Saturday when opposition chief Raila Odinga visited Mzee Moi elicited mixed reactions among politicians from the region.
Commenting on his relationship with Baringo Senator Gideon Moi who is one of Ruto’s political rivals in the Rift Valley region, Tolgos praised the lawmaker for his accommodative personality.
“I like the way Gideon Moi is doing his business. He does not insult anyone and will respect you for who you are. He is just like me,” he added.
Tolgos’ move comes barely a week after Eldoret-based businessman and tycoon Zedekiah Kiprop Bundotich alias Buzeki ditched Ruto’s camp.
