The speaker of the Senate Ken Lusaka on Tuesday morning at Citizen TV proposed rethinking the level of education required for the Members of the County Assembly.
Lusaka suggested that the academic qualifications for MCAs be raised as the country prepares for the 2022 polls.
"Education levels for MCAs should be raised," said Lusaka.
The debate on the qualifications for the members of the county assembly to be raised started trickling during the 2017 campaigns when it was proposed that the academic qualifications should be raised to the Bachelor's degree.
Speaker Lusaka's proposal comes at a time county assemblies have been witnessing what many termed as 'immature' fights as a result of little know-how on legislation processes and policy administration.
The former Bungoma Governor said the country should build capacity in the county assemblies to enable them execute proper mandates at their disposal.
"We must build capacity in the county assemblies," added the speaker.
In 2015, MCAs opposed a move to raise the academic qualifications in a conference held at the Bomas of Kenya.
