Gatundu South MP Moses Kuria is best described as a self-made politician.

From the banking industry and later to politics, Kuria has defied odds to become a force to reckon with in Kenya’s political scene.

In the last two weeks, his popularity in Central Kenya has arguably increased.

On New Year’s Eve, the outspoken politician fired a salvo at the Jubilee administration over development in Central Kenya.

“We want the President to also commission water projects, roads and electricity when he comes here. We were with him in Kisumu where he commissioned a road project, but when he visits (Kiambu) he only issues certificates to recovering alcoholics," Kuria said at the time.

His call for more development in Central Kenya was supported by masses on social media. Many hailed him as “njamba ya ruriri” (the community’s hero) for speaking about a pertinent issue that many leaders do not have the courage to talk about.

His style of politics and outspoken nature may have won the hearts of many Mt Kenya voters in the last two weeks.

Some political pundits argue that if elections were to be held today in Kikuyu land pitting Uhuru against Kuria, the latter would emerge victorious.

However, political analyst Dr Onyango Ochieng Jnr says that this is not true.

“He would win not because he is talking facts or sense but he would win because we are living in a world of fake news, a world of alternative facts and a world of post-truth,” said the analyst in a video posted on Facebook by Albert Nyakundi Amenya alias Banana Peddler.

Kuria has, however, maintained that he is aware of the fact that there are development projects ongoing in the region.

He has also tendered an apology to President Uhuru Kenyatta who early this week fired back at him over the criticism.
