Speaking during homecoming of the Kathiani MP Robert Mbui, also the National Assembly deputy minority leader, Kalonzo said that the current constitution has several loopholes that have promoted poor governance over years.

Kalonzo argued that the winner takes it all system is not democratic.

He noted that the fact that all losers of elections including the second best candidate in the presidential race has made it difficult for the opposition to play its oversight role.

He said that there is need for a change in the constitution to allow the opposition remain strong and functional unlike in the current situation. While quoting the words of Mahatma Gandhi, Kalonzo said that all is well and he is ready to fight for the oppressed as long as he remains in politics.

“First they laugh at you. Then they fight you. Then you win,” and assured his supporters not to worry about comments from his detractors.“Mbele iko sawa” (All is well), he said, as quoted by Standard.

The meeting was attended by several leaders from Ukambani who promised to stand with Kalonzo as he seeks to ascend to power.

The leaders faulted Makueni Governor Prof Kivutha Kibwana over his endless attacks on Kalonzo, terming them propaganda aimed at tainting his good name. The Kamba political kingpin is expected to lock horns with Deputy President William Ruto if his word is anything we can go by.
