Kenya Power and Lighting Company is on the spot following a three-week blackout at Nyambera in Kisii town just a few metres from its store offices.
In an exclusive interview with Hivisasa, residents say they have been in darkness for over three weeks now despite raising their complaints to Kenya Power officers in Kisii.
"Its now over three weeks now. We don't have power, its darkness all over. We have reported to Kenya power but they come here and tell they will change the transformer but nothing has been done so far," said Jane Kerubo.
Another resident, James Okengo said the blackout has inconvenienced them as food stored in fridges are now going bad.
"We don't know if to move to the streets and storm their offices for us to get service. Our children are finding it difficult to do their homework. Some of us who had shopped bulk food it has rotten in our fridges. This is unacceptable," noted Okengo.
The residents say insecurity cases especially robbery have gone high due to darkness forcing traders to close their business from as early as 6:30 pm. Usually, they close at around 10 pm.
"For how long shall we incur losses in our business. People are stealing from us due to darkness. Gangs have made this place a robbery Joint. We used to sell until 10 pm but now we are closing at 6:30 pm due to fear. You cannot walk alone along this place as from 9 pm," retorted Josephine Matoke.
They have now appealed to KPLC to address the matter immediately.
