Narok Senator Ledama Ole Kina has expressed shock over alleged high level of misappropriation of funds in the counties.
He disclosed that irregular cash transactions in most devolved counties was the order of the day as he had established from reports released by the Auditor General's office.
Ledama noted majority of sitting and former Governors were likely to be put in prison once charged for misappropriation of county funds.
"I sit in the Public Accounts and Investments Committee of the Senate and have had a chance to analyze the Auditor General Reports of all 47 counties and from the look of things 80% of all Governors current and former will end up in jail!" he said.
In an exclusive interview on KTN on Monday night, the outspoken Senator said Governors, just like Cabinet Secretaries, were the accounting officers in their respective dockets and would be held responsible for any loss of money.
"The county governors and all the cabinet Secretaries have got a responsibility to manage the public resources according to the way the framework of the Constitution intended," he said during The Big Story segment.
"When you misappropriate public funds, it doesn't matter whether you are in office or not, you have to account for them," Ledama added.
His remarks came moments after Senate Public Accounts and Investments Committee put Nairobi Governor Mike Sonko to task over claims he used personal finances to fund city beautification programme.
The Senators accused him of lying and threatened to take a tough punishment against him.
