The Senate Majority Leader Kipchumba Murkomen is under fire after he mocked Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) party leader Raila Odinga calling him mganga (a witch doctor).

Murkomen ridiculed the former Prime Minister after the Catholic Church denied claims that the Pope had directed a brand new car donated by Deputy President William Ruto to Kisumu Archbishop Philip Anyolo be sent back to the sender.

Raila on Saturday alleged the Church rejected the DP's gift since it had been acquired through "dirty money".

The remarks, however, were rubbished by the Catholic Church leader Cardinal John Njue who said he was not aware of any communication from Pope over the gift.

"I am not aware of how the comments came about. I don’t know about claims that the Holy Pope directed the Church to return the gift," Cardinal Njue said on Sunday.

The sentiments were backed by Murkomen's who scorned off the ODM leader for peddling lies.

"It’s only in Kenya where the Pope calls a mganga before calling a Cardinal. To make it worse he uses a Nigerian number," the Elgeyo-Marakwet Senator said in an apparent reference to Raila.

The remarks attracted the wrath of ODM spokesperson Philip Etale, who responded harshly accusing Murkomen of "pettiness".

In a tweet, Etale said the Senator thrives on spewing venom, adding his reasoning was way below that of known Jubilee controversial MPs Oscar Sudi (Kapseret) and Kimani Ngunjiri (Bahati).

"I must say this without fear of contradiction; you are a disgrace even to your Master. Oscar Sudi and Onesmus Kimani Ngunjiri can reason better than you do. You thrive on spewing venom and nonsense could soon be your second name. Senate Majority Leader, you are too petty," the Orange party director of communications posted.
