Tanzanian star Diamond Platnumz has once again hit the headlines with his new hit song dubbed 'Baba Lao'.
Diamond released the song on Wednesday evening and it has already joined trending songs on YouTube Kenya, precisely at number 19 as per now, (12:50pm on 7/11/2019.)
While he is yet to release its official video, the song is raising questions on social media, with some fans questioning the originality of the song.
'Baba lao' which loosely translates to ''I'm the boss' is a borrowed idea from Nigerian artiste, Naira Marley from one of his hit song, Soapy which was first shared on YouTube on August 9 2019.
Starting from the beats to the flow of the song, it is clear Diamond's song is basically Marley's ideas, and only managed to use different lyrics, Swahili lyrics, to make it unique.
'Baba lao''s main producer S2kizzy has revealed he had to talk to 'Soapy's producer before he decided to use the idea.
"No, we got the idea from Naira Marley's Soapy song, we talked to them and told them we had liked their song, so we did it, and its producer is my friend. (No, idea ya baba lao tulikuwa inspired na wimbo wa Naira Marley inaitwa Soapy, tuliongea nao tukasema tunapenda type ya kitu amabayo wamefanya so tukaifanya na producer wao ni mwanangu)," said S2kizzy after he was asked if he initiated the song's idea.
This is not the first time Diamond is raising questions with his music. He was also accused of kicking out singer King Tee Dee from his single 'The one' after preparations to release a collabo.
Diamond, however, said the whole idea was his but he decided to welcome King Tee Dee before he changed plans.
