Mwangi strongly rejected the claims in a Twitter post, saying that he risked his life to capture the horror of post-poll chaos.

He maintained that he didn't kill anyone or fund the violence that rocked the country.

"I have published two books with PEV work. Given hundreds of talks about tribal violence. I didn't fund the violence. I didn't kill anyone. l risked my life to take the pictures and tell the story. The images our grandkids will see from PEV will likely be mine. Lest we forget, " his post read.

The activist was instrumental in memorialising the aftermath of the disputed 2007 elections.

His images were used by international publications. Hundreds of people were butchered in the mayhem and thousands displaced.

It took the intervention of the international community to quell the violence and restore political calm in the country.

A grand coalition government was formed to accommodate the warring sides.

Mwangi has since then won numerous accolades for chronicling the PEV through images. He has also written a book on the mayhem that erupted then.
