Detectives from the office of the Director of Criminal Investigations (DCI) on Saturday impounded a lorry ferrying over 200 boxes of Supermarch cigarettes along the Kisumu-Busia road.
The boxes had been packed at the back side of the vehicle during the transportation before the sleuths nabbed them.
DCI in a tweet said; "Following an ongoing operation on illegal sale of cigarettes meant for export, @DCI_Kenya Detectives from #Parklands Yesterday intercepted an Isuzu Lorry ferrying more than 200 Boxes of Supermarch cigarettes hidden on the back side of the lorry at Luanda, along Kisumu-Busia road."
Two suspects in connection with the illegal business were also arrested and taken in police custody pending investigations and their prosecution.
“Two suspects; Mr.Silas Njoroge Kigaita & Mr.David Wachira Kiragu arrested. Further investigations including verification by other relevant authorities is ongoing. Suspects in custody as they await arraignment in court on Monday. Motor vehicle detained &cigarettes kept as Exhibits,” DCI added in the tweet while also warning Kenyans against engaging in illegal business.
