Gor Mahia are set to lose another key player, with reports indicating that Innocent Wafula will be leaving the Kenyan champions.
According to the club CEO Omondi Aduda, Wafula will leave in January and will be free to join any club he wants.
This will be a blow to Gor, who will start the defense of their KPL Champions this weekend.
“Wafula is free to join a club of his choice. His contract will end in January and now that he is not available to negotiate for an extension, we have no option. We don’t have time to follow a player all the way to Busia. He should be the one keen to extend his stay that as a club we were very willing to negotiate,” said Aduda.
Wafula joins Karim Nizigiyimana of Burundi in walking out of the exit door, with more talk of other key players set to leave.
Nizigiyimana has already attracted interest from top Kenyan clubs among them AFC Leopards, Tusker, Sofapaka, and Bandari.
Wafula has been instrumental for Gor since joining the Kenyan champions in 2015 and was part of the squad that won the league title unbeaten.
