Uasin Gishu governor Jackson Mandago has registered to participate in the second Eldoret city Marathon scheduled for 21st April 2018.
The governor will participate in the five Kilometer fun race.
Speaking during the handing over of sponsorship package to the Eldoret City Marathon on Thursday, Mandago said the Marathon is anchored towards creating awareness with the aim of seeking support from sponsors and relevant stakeholders to marshal efforts towards mitigating dangers posed by climate change.
“We want everyone who owns land in the county to plant at least 50 trees, we have approximately 100,000 households in the county this adds to 5 million trees. If this is done in the next 13 years we will reach our 10 percent forest cover,” said Mandago.
During the 1st Edition of Eldoret City Marathon in 2018, over 50,000 seedlings were planted in Uasin Gishu County and its environs.
“This is the best paid Marathon where the winner will take home Sh 3.5 million, second position sh million and the third one will pocket sh 2.5 and come next year we will double the prices,” added the County boss.
A total of 29 million was collected where Stanbic bank donated Sh5 million, Standard Group Sh5 Million, Paramount Bank, and DL group Sh3million while the county government of Uasin Gishu which is the title sponsor donated Sh15 million.
