Mombasa has produced several unsung heroes in the sporting sector in Kenya.
Robert Mambo is a star the coastal youth should emulate.
Born in Mombasa on 25 October 1978, the former Harambee Stars captain once coached Swedish football club Dalkurd FF.
Mambo is the only African who has ever managed Dalkurd FF since it was founded on 26 September 2004.
He was their eighth manager in 2013. Those who preceded him were Elvan Cicen, Tomas Blomberg, Bernhard Brcic, Lasse Ericsson, Anders Sjoo, Johan Sandahl and Jonas Bjorkgren.
Those who succeeded him are Andreas Brannstrom, Poya Asbaghi and Azrudin Valentic.
Andreas Brannstrom has had two reins at Dalkurd FF from 2014-2015, before Asbaghi taking over from 2016-2017.
Brannstrom then made a comeback in 2017 for a short time, before leaving again.
Mambo had played for Dalkurd FF from 2011 to 2012, making 36 appearances and managed to score 19 goals.
While growing up in Mombasa, he played for Bandari FC from 1991-1995 and moved to Nyoka FC from 1996-1997 to complete his youth career.
He started his senior career at Kenya Pipeline where he made 16 appearances and scored 4 goals from 1998-2000.
He then moved to Europe where he had an admirable career
