The presence of the University of Eldoret (UOE) has created an ideal environment for business.
Having many students living around the school creates a large market for business, an opportunity that Hazen Koskei did not want to pass him.
Koskei is a fourth-year Bachelor of Science in Computer Science student at the Chepkoilel-based university. He decided to open a one of a kind butchery, Nyama Zone, along Kimumu-Peris highway that is opposite Kimumu School and indeed it did not let him down.
Through his meat business, the student is able to make at least Sh5,000 on a bad day and Sh6,000 on a good day. Cumulatively, Koskei pockets a monthly earning of Sh140,000.

Through this business, he has gained experience on how to handle customers on a daily basis and at now, he is happy and encouraged by the daily sales.
“I usually get encouraged by my daily sales which also helps me to gain daily experience in marketing and how to handle customers,” said Koskei.
However, everything also has challenges. Having a butchery, you get customers who love different tastes of meat. This, according to Koskei becomes a problem when he receives meat full of bones and sometimes so fatty that some customers cannot buy. He also finds it hard sometimes to balance education and business.
Koskei says his friends, family and customers have been key in helping shape and make his dream a reality.
