The granny is stranded at home with her 13-year-old grandson who sat the examination in 2018.

Diana Ayuma, a resident of Sofia slum in Athi River, Machakos County said she is unable to raise fees for Alex Baraka to get admitted to Kiroboni Boys High School in Nakuru County where he has been called.

Ayuma who lives with the child in her rented single roomed house in the slum said she is jobless hence hustles to raise a rent of Sh800 monthly, among other basic needs for daily sustenance.

The granny disclosed that she underwent lots of difficulties for the total orphan to get through his primary education after both his parents died.

“I was forced to transfer Baraka from a private school for lack of school fee after his mother died to Kanaani primary school where he sat his KCPE in 2018 and passed. It was tough providing for my grandson's basic needs through his primary education, he is a complete orphan,” Ayuma said.

Ayuma addressed reporters in the slum on Monday.

“I am appealing to well-wishers to come to my rescue for the child to get to school, he is the only grandchild I have hence my only hope,” she added.

She said her attempts to reach out to local leaders for assistance had hit a snag.

Baraka said he feels bad to be at home while most of his classmates he sat the exams with have reported to Form One.

“I feel bad for myself to be at home while others are in school studying already, it’s as if my dreams are getting shattered,” Baraka said.

He expressed his fears that his ambition of being a journalist when he becomes of age might be shattered if he fails to join Form One for the secondary school education.
