Police in Homa Bay have launched a manhunt for a primary school teacher accused of defiling and impregnating his pupil in Mfangano Island.
The teacher reportedly abused the class eight girl in the staffroom early this year, while other students were in class studying.
According to area Teachers Service Commission (TSC) Director Grace Amira, the said teacher has since been interdicted by the commission and his prosecution approved.
Amira said that attempts to get in touch with the teacher have been futile as he has been absconding duty since his implication.
She noted that the suspect was last seen in the school on May 19 and assured the girl's family that she will be allowed to continue with her academics.
"He has been absconding duty after allegedly committing the offence. We have looked for him in the school but he is nowhere to be seen,” said Amira.
The same was confirmed by Suba North Police boss Charles Mwangi who said that his officers are already pursuing the suspect.
"The suspect is at large, but we are tracing him and will arrest him soon,” said the police boss.
This comes shortly after the teacher requested for a transfer on grounds that he was tired of working in Mfangano, a request that was rejected.
