A section of Jubilee Party politicians allied to Deputy President William Ruto has insisted that the party is strong and now better.
This follows hints about a looming union between President Uhuru Kenyatta and opposition leader Raila Odinga by nominated MP Maina Kamanda-led faction.
However, Ruto's allies have expressed fears in the proposed merger between Jubilee Party and ODM.
“Entering into a coalition with ODM would result in the natural but unfortunate death of Jubilee Party and would negate the economic achievements realized under President Kenyatta’s leadership,” he was quoted by the Nation.
Belgut MP Nelson Koech maintained that they have no plans of ditching the party despite the apparently widening cracks.
“We are a key plank in Jubilee having folded the United Republican Party (URP) alongside The National Alliance (TNA) party and others to form a coalition with a clear development agenda and succession plan which we have no intention of abandoning," he said.
Bomet MP Ronald Tonui said that they will not allow Raila and his ODM party anywhere near Jubilee, at a time when he is being viewed as the man engineering Uhuru-Ruto fallout.
“Mr Odinga is a hypocrite who only thrives on crisis but has nothing tangible to offer the country,” he said.
Laikipia Woman Representative Catherine Waruguru said that the party has a well-stated direction which it will follow.
She said that no amount of interventions will take them away from supporting the DP once Uhuru completes his term in 2022.
