A man who has been stealing shoes from Muslim believers at Sakina Mosque in Mombasa was on Sunday evening forced to eat raw pepper as punishment after he was caught red-handed.

The young man said he has been stealing shoes from different mosques within Mombasa to deliver them to his 'boss', Felix, who then takes the shoes to the market for selling.

He confessed that he supplies the stolen shoes to Felix who then takes them to the market at the Likoni ferry or in Changamwe within Mombasa County.

In a video making rounds online, the alleged thief is seen struggling to utter words while trying to chew and swallow pepper served to him unwillingly and as a fair punishment.

He was made to promise that he will never again steal.

"I swear before God, I will never steal from anyone at any mosque," said the man.

Those who gave pepper to the alleged thief said he had been stealing shoes costing up to Sh4,000 from the mosque and to sell them at as little as Sh500.

Here is the video of the of the act.
