A middle-aged woman is living in fear after she found two snakes at her home.
The incident occurred on Friday evening at Masagege village in Etago, South Mugirango in Kisii County.
Hyline Nyaboke said she quarrelled with her neighbour Jackline Omambia who threatened to teach her a lesson.
“My sheep went to Jackline’s farm and ate her sukuma wiki. She chased it away and came to my home where she picked a quarrel with me. I apologized but she insisted that she would teach me a lesson which she didn’t specify,” said Mrs Nyaboke.
Nyaboke now claims that the two snakes were sent into her home by Jackline.
“Jackline left my home and 30 minutes later my daughter spotted two snakes approaching the door’s entrance. I screamed for help and residents came to my aid and killed the snakes,” she said.
On the witnesses, Gladys Ombasa, described the incident as shocking, adding that the snakes were forcing their way into the house.
"The snakes wanted to force their way into the house as they resisted the beating by neighbours. It was a shocking incident which has never been witnessed in the village,” said Mrs Ombasa.
Area assistant chief, Matilda Ong’uti condemned the incident, noting that the culture of witchcraft must come to an end in the village.
“It is bad for Jackline to send snakes to her neighbour Nyaboke to scare her. Residents should learn to live together in peace and shun unnecessary quarrels,” said Mrs Ong’uti.
The chief said she summoned Jackline to appear in her office on Monday over the matter.
