The Director of Public Prosecution (DPP) Noordin Haji has directed for the arrest of 7 individuals following completion of investigations into the maize scandal.

Among those recommended for prosecution by the DPP is Agriculture Principle Secretary Richard Lesiampe who has already been arrested, former National Cereals and Produce Board (NCPB) Managing Director Newton Terer, NCPB General Manager, Finance Cornel Kiprotich Ng’elechey and Accounts Clerk Caroline Kipchoge Cherono.

In a press statement, the DPP said “the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) investigations so far covered Eldoret Depot where the largest payments were made.”

"Investigations have revealed that NPB officials, agricultural officers, chiefs and assistant chiefs colluded with traders to facilitate fraudulent payments to the detriment of vetted farmers," adds part of the statement.

Officials from Eldoret NCPB who are to be prosecuted with the boards’ top management are; Renson Kibet Korir, NCPB Eldoret silo manager, Eric Kipketer Talam, Records Officer, NCPB Eldoret Depot and Joseph Kipruto Cheboi who is the Uasin Gishu Couty director of Agriculture.

The suspects according to the DPP will be charged with offences of willful failure to comply with the law relating to the management of public property, the unauthorized spending of public funds, conspiracy to defraud, abuse of office and neglect of official duty.
