Lawyer Nelson Havi has offered to represent the eight (8) Ambira High School students who were arrested over allegations of insulting Interior CS Fred Matiang'i and his Education counterpart Amina Mohamed.
In a tweet on Tuesday, Havi called on citizens to give information on the parents or guardians of the students for him and other lawyers to initiate action.
According to the lawyer, the move to arrest and detain the students is an indication of a 'high handed executive decision' that should not be allowed to stand.
"We have offered to act for the 8 Ambira High School boys. If you know the identities and contacts of their parents or guardians, please notify us ASAP. We cannot have a high handed executive decision to punish children and a more than willing Court assisting in the transgression," tweeted Havi.
The students were arrested after a video of them surfaced online where they were seen insulting both Matiang'i and Amina as well as bragging about cheating in their exams.
They are currently remanded up to December 3 after Siaya Law Court Senior Resident Magistrate Gladys Adhiambo directed they be held in juvenile as they await further action.
Apart from blaming the executive on the decision to arrest the students, Havi also blamed the Court for assisting in helping continue holding the students.
