Confirming the incident Kisii County police commander Bernard Muli said the suspect identified as Emmanuel was ferrying a client on Saturday evening when he ended up snatching her handbag.

"The rider after arriving at his client's destination, decided to snatch her bag containing Sh 5,000 and a mobile phone before he sped off but, luckily the client reported the matter to other Boda boda riders in the area," said Muli.

Muli said angered riders ganged up and launched a search for the suspect.

"Riders apprehended the suspect and beat him like a stray dog before police officers who were on patrol rescued him," noted the commander.

He argued that after the thorough beating the rider admitted to have stolen from his client.

"The suspect is in custody for his own safety because riders threatened to lynch him if released," he added.

The commander warned members of the public against taking the law into their hands to beat crime suspects.
