Makueni County Senator Mutula Kilonzo Jnr came out to argue President Uhuru Kenyatta to leave a legacy, by retiring peacefully when his term expires in 2022.
In a tweet, Mutula wants the Head of State to turn down any offers of creating a position for him to cling to power.
“Obama and our President are age mates. The statement in Naivasha is not about age of the President, but a precursor for a Constitutional amendment. The President must refuse the overtures of being youthful and create a legacy of leaders leaving office gracefully,” said Mutula.
His tweet comes days after a section of Mount Kenya MPs on Sunday hinted on pushing for constitutional changes to create a Prime Minister position for Uhuru.
"Uhuru remains our kingpin. He's too young to retire and of course, we shall use the meeting to discuss his future," said Irungu Kang'ata in reference to the Naivasha meeting.
However, former Kiambu governor William Kabogo responded to Mutula stating that Uhuru won’t cling on power.
“I can bet President Kenyatta has no intentions to retain power after his term ends. Take that to the bank. Those are busy nobodies who should be ignored. Btw who do they speak for and to?” said Kabogo.
