Former Machakos Deputy Governor Benard Kiala has remained politically silent even as the 2022 succession politics takes shape.
Kiala’s silence is worrying some of his supporters as 2022 quickly approaches.
The former Deputy Governor who fell out with Wiper party leader Kalonzo Musyoka has continued to keep off the public limelight.
Kiala fell out with Kalonzo after Wiper party failed to give him a direct endorsement in the 2017 general election.
He wanted a direct nomination to contest the Machakos gubernatorial seat.
The party, however, failed to endorse him and instead nominated former Kathiani MP Wavinya Ndeti.
Kiala alongside Governor Alfred Mutua had earlier in 2013 won the gubernatorial election.
The two leaders could not see each other eye to eye during their first term in office.
Mutua always accused Kiala of allegedly sabotaging his leadership.
As 2022 nears, there are claims that Kiala could be reaching out to Mutua for an endorsement.
According to political analyst Peter Ngure, Kiala could be among candidates to contest the Machakos gubernatorial seat in 2022 polls.
“Kiala still has a chance and is likely to be on the Machakos gubernatorial ballot in 2022,” Ngure said in an exclusive interview with this writer on Friday.
He said Kiala is likely to make peace with Kalonzo ahead of the much awaited 2022 polls.
Several politicians are said to be eyeing the Machakos gubernatorial seat in the next elections..
Mutua is serving his last term in office and is yet to endorse his successor.
