Elgeyo Marakwet Senator Kipchumba Murkomen is considered one of the closest allies of Deputy President William Ruto.

The Senate Majority leader, to many, is among the most probable candidates for the Kalenjin kingpin seat after DP Ruto who is now eyeing the top seat in the 2022 presidential contest.

However, Murkomen will have it almost impossible ascending to the seat as he is yet to prove his ability to take charge of the region.

Instead, he has brought himself out as a servant to Ruto whose main job is to sing the DP's name and defend him from attackers.

Murkomen seems unable to stand on his own feet and give direction, as opposed to other leaders from the region who are independently doing their politicking. These include the likes of Cherangany and Nandi Hills lawmakers Joshua Kuttuny and Alfred Keter respectively who are busy with their own things despite appearing as rebels.

Secondly, the Senator doesn't stand out in any way apart from his vocal nature, a factor that will deny him the position.

Even if Ruto was to propose him as his successor, the people would see no need to follow him as he brings nothing unique to the table.

Unlike Baringo Senator Gideon Moi who stands out despite being the silent type, never has Murkomen made himself an agenda of national discussion, which will see him remain under Ruto's wings.

Also, it's clear that the region will most likely rally after Senator after DP Ruto, locking out any other hopefuls.

Finally, Murkomen is too weak to take over and seems to be depending on the DP for political survival.

This is why he is always shouting his name and seems very afraid and unable to challenge him (Ruto) or stand with people representing the common citizen.

Considered a possible candidate for the Elgeyo Marakwet gubernatorial seat come 2022, Murkomen seems afraid that taking a different direction might throw him into political oblivion.

With such an attitude, he can bid the seat goodbye as such positions are taken by force and not given peacefully.
