Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) Governor Sospeter Ojaamong has vowed to lead a demonstration against the Kenya highways authority.
Ojaamong said the protest will be as a result of the authority' laxity to expand and maintain the Busia-Kisumu highway despite his several pleas to the authority to have the road expanded.
"Will soon lead demonstration over laxity by Kenya National Highways Authority Kenya to expand and maintain the Busia-Kisumu Northern Corridor B-road.
"Despite many written letters to have the vital road expanded or repaired the key road linking Kenya and the Great Lakes region has remained in the pathetic state," stated the Busia Governor in a statement on Tuesday.
The Governor maintained that the county government when receiving the Trademark East Africa (TMEA) country Director based in Kenya, Ahmed Farah, informed him that they secured 200 million funding from the department for international development (DFID) for the construction of the dual carriage road.
Ojaamong, however, regretted that the funds had not been put to implementation to date by KENHA.
Ojaamong stated that the funds were donated by the British Government.
"May 2018, Trademark East Africa (TMEA) Country Director-Kenya Ahmed Farah revealed they have secured Sh200 million from the Department for International Development (DFID) for the construction of a Dual Carriage from Busia Border to Korinda," Ojaamong added.
The governor further accused the authority of using five years marking buildings for demolition without even repairing the roads a move which has led to the road experience road accidents with the public blaming him.
"This is an international road with the County Government having no mandate to carry any repairs on it. The British Government donated Sh200 million towards dualization of the road from the Border to Korinda and they should have started," retorted Ojaamong.
KeNHA director general Charles Njenga, however, denied being aware of any allocations for the construction of a dual carriage road.
He, however, maintained that "even the governor is fully aware that there is a contractor that has been deployed to work on that road. The maintenance works begun a week ago."
Njenga was speaking to Hivisasa in a telephone interview on Wednesday morning.
