Pan-Africanism ideals , senior statesmanship and his position as former Prime Minister precipitated Ghanaian government to assign Raila Odinga an aide during Kofi Annan's burial.
For the better part of his stay in Accra, Raila was spotted with an 'aide-de-camp', a privilege only accorded to visiting Heads of State and government.
But a senior ODM official says the Accra events should not insinuate that Raila is in government.
"The major reason why he was given aide is because he's a senior statesman across Africa.
"And due to his fight for democracy, he's recognised as a Pan-Africanist besides being a former PM. That's why he was given such protection," he said.
On social media, Kenyans linked Raila with a special designation in President Uhuru Kenyatta's government even though the president has persistently denied creating a position for the former premier.
In an interview with BBC, Uhuru said his partnership with Raila was development oriented.
"Nobody is being given a new job. Our partnership is development oriented and nothing more than that," he said.
Besides being accorded state reception, Raila held meetings with President Nana Addo (Ghana) and Ivory Coast's Alassane Ouattara.
