He was however not reelected on August 8, 2017, general election, losing the seat to the current MP William Chepkut.

During the 2017 Jubilee party nominations, Chepkonga controversially won the ticket after successfully filing an appeal at the party’s tribunal that granted his request for a repeat election in one poll, Munyaka primary school, beating Chepkut by barely 200 votes.

With him securing the Jubilee party ticket, Chepkut opted to vie as an independent candidate, a move that proved fruitful for the former Personal Assistant to the once powerful minister the late Nicholas Biwott as he won the seat by a far much larger margin.

During his term in the 11th Parliament, Chepkonga, a University of Nairobi masters in Law graduate served as the chairman of the Justice and Legal Affairs Committee as well as a member of the Liaison Committee.

He was a vocal legislator while in parliament, but a majority of his constituents said he was never present on the ground branding him as an 'absentee MP', a fact that cost him the seat.

Ever since losing the seat, Chepkonga has taken a backseat in the public limelight, opting for a low profile.

Is he planning for a political comeback in 2022? Only time will tell.
