Among those seeking to become the third Migori Senator is Peter Jobando, who is running for the seat on the Green Congress Party (GCP) ticket.

Initially, Jobando was in the Raila Odinga led Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) before jumping ship due to what he termed as lack of fairness in the Orange party.

“I am a life member of ODM, but I decamped to GCP because the party (ODM) did not give the people space to elect a leader,” he was quoted by the Standard.

Green Congress Party is led by former Rangwe Member of Parliament Martin Ogindo.

Like Jobando, Ogindo was once in the ranks of ODM but left because of what he termed as lack of democracy.

“We need the people to fight for their rights because a free society always develops when democracy prevails,” he said as quoted by the Standard.

ODM candidate Ochillo Ayacko and Eddy Oketch of the Federal Party of Kenya are the front-runners ahead of the by-election.

Leaders aligned to ODM have claimed that Oketch is being bankrolled by Deputy President William Ruto, an allegation the candidate has denied.
