The crop is mainly grown in Moiben and Ainabkoi sub-counties in Uasin Gishu.

Here are seven things you need to do when planting so as to secure high returns for your potatoes;

1. Plant at optimal time Recommended best time of planting is when the maximum and minimum temperatures are from 30-32 degree Celsius and 18-20 degrees Celsius respectively.

2. Potato seeds to be planted (pieces of the whole potato or a small whose piece) should be with at least two eyes per piece.

3. In case you are cutting potatoes to be used for planting, do this at least 1-2 days ahead of time. This will enable the potato seed pieces to form a protective layer for both rot and moisture retention.

4. Start planting early, as soon as the soil can be worked on.

5. For the best results, spread and mix the potato seeds with rotted manure or any organic compost in the bottom of the trench before planting.

6. Seed potatoes should be planted one foot apart in a 4-inch trench, with the eyes up.

7. Plant the potatoes in a row.

They grow best in this form.
