According to a report by Nation, Kipchoge who set a new record world record during the Berlin Marathon secretly arrived in the country.

Unlike the normal practise where athletes are welcomed with joy and dances together with the popular mursik drink, none was there for Kipchoge.

“Upon his arrival, Kipchoge took his luggage and boarded a Toyota Premio saloon car that was on standby before it sped off to an unknown location,” a source is quoted by the Nation.

Unlike most athletes, Eliud Kipchoge has always avoided fanfare upon arrival back in the country from international events.

“I don’t like the big parties. Why should I be driven around the town after winning a race? It doesn’t add up for me,” he once said.

The 33-year-old is said to have quietly arrived at the Eldoret International Airport at around 3 pm.

On Sunday during this year’s edition of Berlin Marathon, Kipchoge entered history books as he broke the Marathon record previously held by his compatriot Dennis Kimetto.

Kimetto set a world record then during the 2014 edition of the Berlin Marathon in a time of 2 hours, 2 minutes and 57 seconds, but on Sunday, Kipchoge set a new record after clocking 2 hours, 1 minute and 39 seconds.

It was his third Berlin Marathon title after winning in 2015 and 2017.

Kipchoge edged out compatriot Amos Kipruto to second place, while the 2013 Berlin Marathon champion Wilson Kipsang settled for the third position.
