Police officers attached to the Border Police Patrol Unit, Amuma camp on Monday sustained injuries after their vehicle lost control and veered off the road.
The accident happened in Mwingi town along the Mwingi-Garissa Highway.
Confirming the incident, Mwingi police boss Francis Wahome revealed that no casualties were reported, although the officers onboard the vehicle sustained minor injuries. At the time of the incident, seven officers were said to have been in the vehicle.
"The police Landcruiser is from Border Police Patrol Unit, Amuma camp in Fafi constituency. No casualties but minor injuries have been recorded," Wahome confirmed.
The car has since been towed to Mwingi Police Station as the injured officers receive treatment at Mwingi Hospital.
The Monday accident comes barely a month after a Garissa bound bus killed at least 14 passengers along the Mwingi-Garissa highway. The incident sparked a fierce debate from area politicians who called on the government to mark the road as a blackspot.
Road users plying the route are now urged to be extra careful and not to speed in a bid to curb the ever-increasing number of tragic accidents.
