Moi University has recently been on the spot after the death of Ivy Wangechi, a sixth-year medicine student.
Wangechi was hacked to death by her alleged lover, Naftali Kinuthia outside the Moi Teaching and Referral Hospital in Eldoret.
That was just one among the many love-related deaths at the Kesses-based institution.
From the cases reported, the university should introduce common units that enlighten students on how to handle breakups and disappointments in their relationships.
Professional councilors should be employed by the university to frequently monitor and give guidance to students as far as their social lives are concerned.
Empowerment forums must be held frequently just to educate students on how to handle love relationships. Technological programs talking about how to react to disappointments in a relationship should also be produced.
It is sad to see our young women who have been sent to university to acquire education end up in graves due to reasons that can be avoided.
Parents should work together with university administration and members of the clergy to address this issue.
It is a collective responsibility and it can be overcome if all measures are administered properly.
