Muthama argues that the bill does not have the interests of common Kenyans.

The former senator accuses MPs of doing little and giving Kenyans false hopes.

He says the bill should have been rejected since it is over-burdening Kenyans with taxes.

Muthama says while the government has a duty to impose and collect taxes from Kenyans, over-taxing poor citizens with levies is not right.

The senator argues that millions of Kenyans are struggling to survive and therefore increasing levies on fuel is going to hurt them more.

“MPs failed and should not pretend that they were fighting for Kenyans interests,” Muthama said.

Muthama addressed residents in Kangundo town on Saturday.

He asked Kenyans to prepare for tough economic times ahead.

Parliament on Thursday passed the Finance Bill 2018  that imposes eight percent VAT on petroleum products.

President Uhuru Kenyatta has since signed the Bill into Law.
