Homabay Members of County Assembly (MCAs) have unanimously passed a motion to impeach assembly speaker Elizabeth Ayoo.

The impeachment motion was tabled by Ruma Kaksingri Ward MCA Ellyphalet Osuri. 

The MCAs claimed that the speaker lacked Integrity and leadership skills.

They accused the speaker of allegedly discriminating and mistreating assembly members and staff.

Mid this month, the ousted speaker survived after a section of MCAs allegedly attacked her with kicks, blows, and chairs in the assembly.

The assembly’s sergeant-at-arms was forced to save the life of the speaker from the hands of irate MCAs who attacked her accusing her of being biased.

She was reading a report from the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) concerning changes in the leadership of the county assembly.

Other grounds of her impeachment were; incompetence in discharging her duties as dpeaker and the alleged stealing of the mace – the symbol of authority from the assembly. Ayoo is also accused of frequent adjournments of house sittings, something the MCAs termed as unprocedural.​

She becomes the latest Speaker to be impeached after Beatrice Elachi in Nairobi and Morris Buluma in Kakamega.
