Here are some of the estates whose names, heavily rely on history or the actual things that are common in these destinations.

1. Manyani Estate

Manyani estate is located towards the southeastern end of the town, bordering the lower side of the Lake Nakuru National Park.

And due to its closeness to the park, the estate has always played host to baboons which come out and invade people's residences in search of food.

Known as 'Nyani' in Swahili, the area was largely referred to 'Manyani' (baboons), a name that stuck with time.

Basing on the bad sound of the name, residents of the estate which falls under the larger Kivumbini ward have since renamed it 'Green view'.

2. Kivumbini

As a resident of Kaloleni-A estate which borders Kivumbini-4 to the North, this writer has known the estate since the 2000s.

This writer has since established that the Nakuru county-owned estate once hosted a strict Arabic constructor who would tell his builders (during the construction of the houses) to not let any cement dust (Vumbi) be blown by the air in the course of the construction.

This he shouted whenever he saw the possibility of the same happening, leading to the vumbi word becoming common around.

That is how Kivumbini was born!
