Busia Governor Sospeter Ojaamong was arrested on Wednesday morning, and is set to spend two nights behind bars.
The Governor and a section of county officials are accused of flouting procurement procedures in Busia county.
The Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP), Noordin Haji noted that the Busia county high profile government officials should be prosecuted over irregular acquisition of an integrated solid waste management services.
Ojaamong's arrest elicited a lot of reactions from the residents. Here are some of them:
"I urge the Busia government officials to emulate Kisumu county to ensure the betterment of lives of their people," said Boss Onyango, a resident of Lolwe.
"Let this be a lesson to other governors who had the same plans of looting county resources," said Bernard Ouma, a resident of Mamboleo.
"At least the handshake between Raila and President Uhuru Kenyatta is working, they are striking corruption to it's knees, ' said Sanka Ojwang', a resident of Lela.
"God bless the DPP, Noordin Haji, I embrace his boldness in making sure county resources are not embezzled," said Matilda Akinyi, a resident of Kisian.
"This is the reason Busia county was ranked among the poorest counties in the last ranking, let the cartels be dealt with properly," noted Abdulnasir Salim, a resident of Milimani.
"I pray that the culprits are jailed, so that other government officials can also learn," said Abigius Otieno, a resident of Ahero.
"I read in the news that they are spending two night in cells, I am so happy about this," said Mikenoel Odima, a resident of Kondele.
"I suggest that the lifestyle audit set to be done to high profile government officials be done to him also," suggested Mary Aumah.
