Renowned city lawyer and social and political commentator Donald Korir has wondered why the Kenya Defence Forces (KDF) officers are going for assignments on Toyota vehicles.
In a tweet on Saturday, Mr Korir asked about the fate and whereabouts of Armoured Personnel Carriers that were procured by the government from the Chinese government.
The lawyer said that every month police officers using the Toyota vehicles were being killed in Wajir, Lamu, Garissa and Mandera by IEDs.
He also sought to know who was sending the officers to areas riddled with mines in the Toyotas.
Every month, our Police using Toyota or Landrover Pick-ups are killed in Wajir, Lamu, Garissa & Mandera by IEDs ... What happened to the many Armoured Personnel Carriers we bought or were gifted by US & China? Where are they? Who is sending our Police to War in Toyota Vehicles?" His tweet read.
Police officers in the country, by and large, use Toyota Land Cruisers and Land Rover in their operations.
Cases of officers being injured or even killed by IEDs while inside their vehicles have been reported in the past in the media.
The cases are mainly reported in Northern Kenya where there is an ongoing effort against terrorism.
