Machakos Governor Dr Alfred Mutua has said that he is committed to empowering youth in the county before he completes his second and final term in office.
Speaking during an interview on Ramogi FM on Wednesday, Mutua said that he is committed to ensuring he delivers his promises before he vacates the seat.
The county boss, who also doubles up as Maendeleo Chap Chap Movement leader, said that he has invested time and effort in vocational training programmes.
“I'm engaging my youth in Machakos to acquire skill-based training by offering free training at the government vocational centres. We need plumbers, masons, dressmakers etc. Let us look for work when we have the required skills and credentials,” he said.
Mutua also said that though some constituencies in the county are not endowed with resources, he will not let his people languish in abject poverty as long as he remains in power.
“Even for constituencies without raw materials for industries, we will urge them to consider value addition. For example, Japan imports all its iron ore, then sells us their finished products; Toyota vehicles. This is the mentality we must embrace. A can do attitude.#Ramogifm,” he said.
The governor has hinted at contesting for the country’s top seat in 2022.
