Ukambani Governors Dr Alfred Mutua , Kivutha Kibwana and Charity Ngilu on Saturday convened the South Eastern Kenya Economic Bloc (SEKEB) meeting.

The meeting held at Governor Alfred Mutu offices, was also attended by top officials from the three counties.

During the meeting, the three governors signed the Constitutive Agreement that binds them under SEKEB. 

“Today is a historic day in fight against poverty in Ukambani. The signing of this South Eastern Kenya Economic Bloc (SEKEB) agreement provide us, three Governors a chance to jointly provide  rapid, result based leadership for the great people of Ukambani,” Governor Mutua said.

Governor Mutua said that through SEKEB, they will be able to lobby the National Government and externally as a unit.

“We will  also handle cross cutting issues together in order to empower our people and ensure they have money in their pockets in our bid to improve the quality of their lives,” Mutua tweeted.

The meeting was also attended by County Assembly Speakers from the three Ukambani counties.

The Ukambani governors have vowed to work together for the benefit of the people.

In January, the governors formed the People’s Empowerment Movement (PEM) to fight poverty and generate wealth for the region.

The movement is also meant to galvanize sharing of resources among the three counties and advocate for peace and unity in the region.
