Mutula Kilonzo died mysteriously at his Maanzoni home weeks after he won the Senate seat in the 2013 general election.

The late senator's death shook the country and especially Ukambani region.

Kilonzo was a close ally of Wiper Party leader Kalonzo Musyoka though they had sometimes sharply differed on political ideologies.

After Mutula Kilonzo's sudden death, his wife Nduku Kilonzo was among individuals who declared an interest to succeed him as the Makueni Senator.

The late senator's daughter Kethi Kilonzo also declared an interest in the Makueni seat.

Nduku and Kethi were later forced out of the senatorial by-election.

She quit the race in support of her stepdaughter Kethi Kilonzo.

The widow also argued that she could not have contested in the by-election that had been set for July 2, 2013.

She claimed that her late husband was born in the month of July and vying for the seat will not have been proper for her.

On the other hand, Kethi was forced out of the race after the IEBC claimed that she was not a registered voter.

Kethi had been picked by Wiper Party to contest the by-election.

Wiper Party then picked Mutula Kilonzo Jnr who went on to win the by-election.

Since her unsuccessful attempt to join politics, Nduku Kilonzo has remained silent raising questions to her whereabouts.

Nduku is among individuals who can make an impact in Ukambani politics if she decides to venture into politics.

She can ride on her late husband's political fame in Makueni and larger Ukambani to venture into active politics ahead of 2022 polls.
