Kakamega Senator Cleopa Malala has taken issue with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, accusing it of discriminating members of specific communities in its appointments.
Speaking on Thursday, the lawmaker noted some bias in appointing members of the Luhya community in various diplomatic positions and is accusing the ministry of deliberately doing it.
He now wants Foreign Affairs Cabinet Secretary Monica Juma to come clear on the issue, having ignored the community in the recent promotion and posting of envoys.
In a press conference at the Parliament, he termed it humiliating that all the ambassadors from the community have been sacked, leaving only two who were recently elevated to take up the envoy positions.
“We would like to share our dissatisfaction with the skewed appointments, humiliation and arbitrary sacking or recalling of diplomats from our community by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs,” he was quoted by the People Daily.
However, his remarks have been dismissed by Kenyan envoy to Burundi Ken Visita whom he enlisted as one of those sacked, alongside Simon Nabukwesi and Antony Andache.
Malala now wants CS Juma to come clean if she has issues with members of the community.
"Does the CS have a personal vendetta against members of the Luhya community?” he said.
His remarks were echoed by Makadara MP George Aladwa who is now seeking audience with President Uhuru Kenyatte over the issue.
This comes barely a fortnight after the MP fired shots at Interior CS Fred Matiang'i over his arrest and detention in Kisumu, in relation to the Matungu killings in Kakamega county.
