Journalist Moses Dola has been sent behind bars for 10 years following the murder of his wife Wambui Kabiru.
Dola had been found guilty of manslaughter.
High Court judge Roseline Korir handed down the sentence on Thursday at the Milimani Law Courts.
Korir said Kabiru’s family was hard hit by the death of their daughter and deserves justice.
"I agree with his grief on joblessness. However, this would not be a proper reason not to punish him for the murders since there are a vast of other jobless people in the country," Korir said.
Korir added that a custodial sentence would serve as a lesson to dola.
"I am convinced that a custodial sentence is good enough and I hereby sentence him to ten years in prison."
