Over 50 youths from Molo town will benefit from Safaricom’s Ndoto Zetu social campaign that is aimed at supporting hopes and dreams that Kenyans have for their communities.
Under the program, the youths, majority of who were street children but now reformed, received handcarts that they will now use to empower themselves economically.
Speaking on Thursday at Molo bus terminus during the handing of the handcarts to the group, Safaricom Rift Region Manager Mr.Michael Akal said through the program they intend to reach out to 500 target groups by end of March this year.
“We are here basically to empower the youths of Molo through the handcarts after an application was made by one of our customers. We have received over 10,000 applications for Ndoto Zetu but we look forward to vet and reach out to 500 target groups,” said the officer.
The campaign is part of Safaricom’s mission to transform lives through community investments.
Muigai Mburu heard about Safaricom’s Ndoto Zetu campaign and made an application for the youths to be given the handcarts.
“I realized most of our youth at the Molo Bus terminus are involved in loading and offloading of luggage and goods for the market so I made the application for the handcarts which I believe they will be of help to them,” said Mburu.
Comedian Daniel Ndambuki aka Churchill, who witnessed the handing over ceremony, urged youths to shun drugs.
“Every parent wants to see their children prosper and that is why we are calling on the youths in Molo and nationwide not to engage in drugs and substance abuse but ensure they grab opportunities that can help them develop,” said Churchill.
Under the Safaricom Ndoto Zetu social campaign 500 project entries are selected in every region with entry submissions having kicked off on 7th January and closed on 30th January 2019.
So far, 10,000 submissions and more application forms are still streaming in from application centres famously known as Safaricom shops across the regions.
Received proposals undergo vetting and verification before they are approved for consideration.
