A section of local leaders in Kisii has reacted after Interior Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiang'i and ODM party leader Raila Odinga were linked to Sh400 million fake gold scam.
The leaders led by Tabaka ward MCA Daniel Apepo argued that Matiang'i and Raila should not be dragged into the mess.
"I strongly oppose those mentioning Matiang'i and Raila in the fake gold scam. Let those who found culpable face the law," he said in his ward on Sunday.
The Jubilee party allied MCA appealed to DPP Noordin Haji and DCI George Kinoti to ensure cartels dealing in fake gold business are prosecuted.
Ex-Bonchari MP Protus Kebati defended Matiang'i and Raila over the links to fake gold scam saying that those linking them into the saga have a political motive.
"I am urging Matiang'i and Raila to ignore those mentioning their names in the fake gold scam. A section of politicians who are losing focus in the country politics should stop dragging others to dubious dealings," said Kebati.
Rachael Otundo, a human rights activist-cum-politician urged politicians to be calm and allow detectives to probe the fake gold scam.
"All Kenyans need is those engaging in dubious dealings brought to book. Dragging Matiang'i and Raila into the scam won't help detectives to know the real suspects," she stated in Kisii town on Sunday.
