This comes at a time when a large number of politicians seem in support of the referendum, which is, however, facing opposition from other members of the group.

The opposer has raised a number of reasons against the push to expand the executive and reintroduce the parliamentary leadership system from the presidential one.

Speaking on Thursday, the opposition lawmaker poked holes into claims that the new setup will consume a lot more in sustaining the new slots and their holders.

He added that far from what is thought as a larger executive will consume more, their money will come from the cabinet where ministers will no longer receive their current benefits.

"It is not true that the expansion of the executive and the return of parliamentary system will consume more, actually its cheaper and is the way to go," he said.

"Its worth noting that we will no longer be paying Ministers the salaries they are currently getting. There are no separate salaries for them when they are picked from the Parliament.

"They will only be getting an additional responsibility allowance not exceeding Sh200, 000 shillings," he said.

Kaluma insisted that this will save on the large amounts of money currently eaten up by Cabinet Secretaries (CSs) and Chief Administrative Secretaries (CASs) which will be scrapped.

The changes are enjoying the backing of opposition leader Raila Odinga, President Uhuru Kenyatta and other top opposition figures.

Kaluma was speaking in an interview on Milele FM's Kivumbi show on Thursday morning.
