The motion was tabled by nominated MCA Catherine Barmao - representing Gender-  asking the county government to train all boda boda operators so as to improve road safety in the county.

She said this will help to reduce the bodaboda accidents which have claimed many lives.

“Bodaboda has created many opportunities where one earns Sh500-sh 1200, however, Mr. speaker there are other challenges such as they have helmets and they don’t know how to use them in case of an accident they will lose their lives,” she said.

Barmao noted that most of them don’t use helmets and reflector jackets.

“When you are driving your vehicle the bodaboda overtakes left to right and centre, sometimes they even move in the middle of two vehicles thus risking their lives and those of their passengers,” she added.

The motion was seconded by  Cheptiret Kipchamo ward MCA Gilbert Tenai who said that since boda boda riders pay rates to the county, the county government has an obligation to train them.

The Leader of Majority in the assembly Josphat Lowoi supported the motion saying bodaboda business is killing many youths thus, urgent intervention on road safety is needed.

Deputy speaker Hosea Korir presided over the session
