Tourism Cabinet Secretary Najib Balala who toured the region last week said counties lying within the lake basin are sitting on a gold mine.''Counties with a lakefront view should work as a team to pull resources and package a product that will market the Western Kenya Tourism Circuit,'' said the CS.He reminded the counties not to work in isolation but to tag along stakeholders in the private sector by giving them a leading role.Balala opined that no county government should put depend on the national government to help them market their regions in terms of tourism but however utilize prudently tourism budgetary allocation to package tourism products.According to him, it is not about a huge budgetary allocation to identify, package and market a tourism product but rather, what lacks is the strategy that should be executed for a final product that can sell the counties and country by extension.''Counties must exhibit commitment towards improving tourism sites within their areas to attract domestic and international tourists,'' he added.
