A 35-year old church official has been charged with defiling a Form Three student at a lodging in Isiolo Town.
Mr Charles Koronya, chairman of Ruiri Deliverance Church in Buuri sub-county, was further charged with forcing the minor to procure an abortion.
The court heard that the accused person committed the offence on December 19, 2018 in Isiolo town.
The prosecution told the court that the accused person lured the 17-year-old girl by promising to take her for a short trip.
The church official then took her to a hotel room where he committed the heinous act on the minor who is also a member of the Deliverance Church.
Later on this year in January, the girl informed the accused person that she was pregnant and he advised her to procure an abortion.
The accused bought three tablets and advised the minor to take for three days assuring her that the abortion would be successful.
After taking the tablets, the girl after a few days started experiencing severe stomach pains before she collapsed while she was playing with her friends.
The matter was reported to the police on February 3, this year after the girl revealed what had transpired.
The accused denied the charges before the court and through lawyer Audrey Mbijiwe, asked the court to grant his client lenient bond terms.
Resident Magistrate Edward Tsimonjero ordered for the accused to be released on a Sh400,000 bond.
The case will be heard on April 10, 2019.
