Wajir Women Representative Fatuma Gedi now wants President Uhuru Kenyatta to intervene in the Supreme Court's ruling that gave schools the discretion to decide on wearing of hijabs by Muslim students.
Gedi says that since the Supreme Court is the highest and last court, President Uhuru Kenyatta should intervene in the matter.
Gedi claims that the ruling discriminates and violates the rights of Muslim girls.
"We are going to petition the president to intervene on the matter because it goes against our religious practices," she told journalists in Wajir Town on Saturday.
Gedi said that wearing of hijabs by Muslim girls is not fashion but a religious practice.
She noted that giving schools powers to decide on wearing of hijabs is unconstitutional.
Gedi said that Muslims must be allowed the right to worship and practice religion as clearly stipulated in the constitution.
The Supreme Court ruling on hijabs has angered Muslim leaders and politicians.
On Thursday last week, the apex court allowed schools to decide on their own dress code for students.
The Supreme court overturned a Court of Appeal ruling that had allowed wearing of hijabs by Muslim students in schools.
